Vegan Desserts are just as delicious as regular desserts, if not more so. Last year I cut down on dairy because it was making me bloated. Then a friend of mine explained that many farming practices used to produce dairy products and eggs are unethical – a lot doesn't get mentioned in the press! I decide it was too much to switch to a vegan diet but I made some big changes and six months later I feel fantastic. But my taste buds haven't changed; I have a big sweet tooth and I am constantly seeking good vegan desserts and recipes. Some recipes have been a let down – literally – but I've also mastered plenty of successful and scrumptious recipes. Here are the best of the best, my 7 top vegan desserts of all time.

1 Chocolate Cake
My list of top vegan desserts just has to start with a chocolate cake. What can I say? Everybody needs chocolate cake, even vegans. This recipe is fantastic topped with vegan frosting for a children's birthday party. It's great cut in half and spread with cherry jam in the middle. It's lovely warmed for an evening treat. Basically, it's great anytime, any way. Even if you're not vegan, you'll be glad you found this delicious and easy chocolate cake recipe.

2 Lemon Cake
This cake is perfect for afternoon tea, served on little decorated plates alongside a cup of Earl Grey tea. It makes me think of springtime… ahhh, green grass and sunny afternoons! The lemon curd filling gives this cake a wonderful texture and richness of flavor, compared to the light and creamy topping. I like to add shredded coconut on top. It goes well with the lemons and it is so much sexier than desiccated coconut. This cake is so light and delicious I will eat three pieces – then justify it by reminding myself that lemons have a number of health benefits and they are great for the immune system.

Warm brownies are a favorite wintertime treat of mine, that's why these Brazil nut and banana brownies made it onto my list of top vegan desserts. These brownies are healthier than chocolate-based brownies because they use a lot of bananas. Banana is a great source of potassium while Brazil nuts contain magnesium: two important yet often overlooked minerals for good health. That's not the only reason I love these brownies – not only are they vegan, they are also gluten free.

4 Banana Brûlée
While we're on the banana trend, one of the easiest top vegan desserts I know is banana brûlée. Slice bananas in half lengthways and place them on a heatproof tray. Cover the midsection with granulized sugar and heat the sugar with a propane torch or a small hand-held butane torches until it caramelizes. You can also cook the bananas in an oven first if you like.

5 Poached Peaches
These beautiful red wine poached peaches are one of my top vegan desserts to serve at dinner parties. Guests' faces light up with delight when I serve them, and they don't give you that sluggish feeling that heavy desserts can, so the party always kicks on. They are elegant and delicious, they're low in fat and calories and they can be served with vegan ice cream or a dollop of cream for the non-vegans at the table. The website where I found the recipe also has heaps more vegan dessert recipes.

6 Almond Cookies
For a very easy sweet biscuit, try these roasted almond cookies. The four ingredients, raw almonds, oat flour, maple syrup and almond extract, create a crisp cookie that is one of my top vegan cookies of all time. They go great with a soy chai! Buy the best quality maple syrup you can find – and don't be fooled by imitation maple syrups. I like organic Canadian maple syrup best. They give these cookies a lovely, rich, sweet flavor

7 Carrot Cake
I love carrot cake because it is much healthier than other desserts due to the high vegetable content, but a good carrot cake recipe that is moist and flavorsome tastes just as decadent as a chocolate cake – without the guilty aftertaste. This vegan recipe is my all time top vegan dessert. It always turns out moist and it is delicious warmed up with a scoop of frozen soy. Sometimes I use pecans instead of walnuts or a mix of both, and I like to add a teaspoon of nutmeg to spice things up!
