1 Classic Dog Crunchies

Ingredients are 16oz (450g) whole wheat flour, 6oz (170g) porridge oats, 1oz (30g) shortening (pork lard), 1 tablespoon sunflower oil, 1½oz (40g) grated parmesan cheese, and 14 fl oz (400ml) unsalted chicken stock. What you need do first is preheat the oven to 320°F (160°). Mix together the flour, oats, shortening, oil and parmesan cheese. Finely grate the carrots and add with chicken stock to the flour mix. Form dough. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to ¼ inch (5mm) thickness. Cut into diamonds, triangles or squares. Put the dough shapes on a parchment covered baking sheet and bake in oven for 40-50 minutes. Turn the heat off and allow the biscuits to dry out in the oven.

Roll the dough out to a thickness of ½ inch (1cm) on a floured board. Cut out round biscuit shapes and place onto a parchment covered baking tray allowing space for the mixture to spread. Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes. Turn off the heat and leave the biscuits to dry for a further 2 hours in the oven.

4 Beefy Bites

All you need is 1lb (500g) of lean beef. Dice the meat into ½” (1cm) cubes. Cover a baking sheet with parchment and place the cubes of meat on it. Put into a cold oven and bring the heat to 300°F (150C°) and leave to cook for 1 hour. Reduce the oven temperature 210°F (100C°) and prop the oven door open to let moisture escape. Leave the meat in the oven for a further 2 hours. Allow the meat cubes to dry out overnight at room temperature. These bites will keep for up to a year in an airtight container.

5 Bran Biccies

Ingredients are 2 carrots, 1 bunch parsley, 1lb (450g) whole wheat flour, 2 fl oz (60 ml) olive oil, 2 tablespoons almond bran, and flour for dusting. Preheat the oven to 320°F (160°). Dice the carrots and roughly chop the parsley. Add to a blender with the oil and make into a purée. Knead the purée with the flour and bran to a firm dough. If not pliable add a little water. Shape the dough into a ball, cover with plastic wrap and put in fridge to chill for 30 minutes. Roll out the dough on floured surface to ¼ inch thickness (5mm). Cut into shapes and place on a covered baking sheet. Bake for 30 minutes. Cool on a wire rack.

6 Toothsome Treats

You will need 5oz (150g) whole wheat flour, 5oz (150g) wheat bread flour, 3½ 6oz (100g) porridge oats, 2oz (60g) shortening (pork lard), 2 tablespoons rapeseed oil, 3 tablespoons skimmed milk powder, 6 fl oz (200ml) unsalted chicken stock, flour for dusting, and shelled sunflower seeds to coat. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°). Mix the flours, porridge oats, shortening, rapeseed oil and powdered milk thoroughly. Add the chicken stock and knead to make a soft dough. If not pliable enough add a little water. Scoop out one tablespoon of dough and make a thick biscuit shaped roll on a floured surface. Coat with sunflower seeds. Repeat until all dough is used. Put biscuits on a parchment covered baking sheet and put in the oven for 40-50 minutes. Turn off the heat and leave the biscuits to harden for a few hours in the oven.

7 Meaty Munchies

Ingredients are 11oz (300g) sausage meat, 11oz (300g) breadcrumbs, 1 tablespoon golden syrup, 2½ fl oz (75ml) milk, 1 tablespoon chopped oregano, oil for greasing, and flour for dusting. Preheat the oven to 345°F (175°). Knead together all the ingredients to form a soft dough. If too sticky add more breadcrumbs. Shape dough to a ball cover in plastic and chill in the fridge for 20 minutes. Grease six tartlet tins. Roll out dough on a floured surface to ¼ inch (5mm) and cut circles with fluted cutter. Put circles into tartlet tins and bake for 30 minutes. Cool on a wire rack.
