Gourmet whipped creams are so yummy when you pile a dollop on top of a piece of apple pie, a fudgy brownie, and sweet angel food cake. But what makes it better? Making you own homemade kind and creating a gourmet variety to eat with your homemade cake or pie! Take this basic recipe and add the following variations and then let me know which one you think is absolutely divine…
Here is your basic, easy to make, yummy, yummy whipped cream! Make sure you whisk it thoroughly and place your bowl in the freezer so that it will be ice cold for best results.
1 pint heavy cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup confectioners' sugar
In a large bowl, whip cream until stiff peaks are just about to form. Beat in vanilla and sugar until peaks form. Do not over-beat or the cream will then become lumpy and butter-like.
I recommend going with the non-alcoholic version of this one. This recipe goes well with fruity desserts like strawberry shortcake. Take the basic recipe and add 1 1/2 tablespoons of rum to it. Mix well, and enjoy.
This recipe of whipped cream goes well with pumpkin pies or anything else with a spice-like hint to it. Add to the basic recipe 1/2 teaspoon of chai extract and garnish with a light dusting of cinnamon.
Chocolate and mint go together like a hand and a glove! Make this delectible version for your chocolate cake or mousse!
Once again, to the basic recipe, add 1/2 teaspoon of mint extract, and 1/2 teaspoon of mint paste. To make the paste, simple grind up mint leaves! Garnish with a couple mint leaves, and you've gone gourmet all the way!
Some desserts like angel food cake call for special garnishes! If you like fruity jams, this is perfect. Reduce the sugar in your basic recipe by 3 tablespoons, and add 2 tablespoons of fruit jam to the mixture.
For an absolutely dreamy chocolate whipped cream, add 1 1/2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder plus an additional 1 1/2 tablespoons granulated white sugar to the basic recipe. Chill for about one hour to give the powder time to dissolve and then beat until stiff peaks form.
Want a special treat in the morning? If you are a coffee drinker, like I am, you may enjoy something special from time to time. Make this delicious recipe to add to your coffee!
1 cup heavy whipping cream
2 teaspoons Nielsen-Massey Pure Coffee Extract
2 tablespoons sifted confectioners' sugar
Whip the cream in a mixing bowl using an electric mixer on medium-high until soft peaks form. Add the coffee extract and confectioners' sugar. Whip until blended.
Add a dollop of whipped cream to a fresh cup of coffee, dessert-style martini, a slice of rich chocolate cake or a dish of fresh fruit.
These are a few of my favorite variations in my gourmet whipped cream recipes. Do you have a favorite food you prefer whipped cream?
