1

Honey and Cheese

Certainly one of the stranger sandwich fillings I have come across, a smooth and runny honey paired with a strong cheese (stilton is a favorite) makes a very nice filling.

UPD:

Honey and cheese may seem like an unusual combination, but it has been enjoyed as a sandwich filling for centuries. In fact, it is a popular choice in many European countries, such as France and Italy. The sweetness of the honey balances out the sharpness of the cheese, creating a unique flavor profile. Additionally, honey is a natural preservative, making it a practical choice for sandwiches that will be eaten on the go. Some variations of this sandwich include adding sliced apples or pears for additional texture and flavor. So next time you're feeling adventurous, give honey and cheese a try in your sandwich!

2

Grape

Fruit? In a sandwich? Very strange indeed, but I have been reliably informed that two pieces of bread and butter with a filling of chopped grapes tastes a lot better than it sounds. I don’t know about you, but I’m not sure I’ll be trying that…

UPD:

Grapes are a popular fruit that is used in many recipes, but a grape sandwich is definitely an unusual one. Grapes are a type of berry that come in many different varieties, such as Concord, Muscat, and Thompson. They are usually eaten raw, but can also be used in jams, jellies, juices, and wines.

Grapes have been cultivated for thousands of years and are believed to have originated in the Middle East. They are a good source of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants and can help reduce the risk of many chronic diseases.

Grapes are often used in desserts, salads, and other dishes, but rarely in sandwiches. The combination of sweet grapes and savory bread and butter may sound strange, but it is said to be surprisingly delicious. The grapes should be chopped into small pieces to ensure that they are evenly distributed throughout the sandwich.

To make a grape sandwich, start by spreading butter on two slices of bread. Then, sprinkle the chopped grapes over one side of the bread. Place the other slice of bread on top and press lightly to ensure that the grapes are spread evenly throughout. Finally, cut the sandwich into triangles and serve.

Frequently asked questions

A sandwich can be called weird if it has unusual ingredients that you normally wouldn't think to put together, strange food combinations, or it includes something unexpected like sweet ingredients in a typically savory sandwich.

Yes, it's safe to eat weird sandwiches as long as the ingredients are properly prepared and are safe to consume. But always check for any food allergies or dietary restrictions you might have before trying something new.

You can find ideas for weird sandwiches in cookbooks, on cooking websites, social media platforms, or by experimenting with your favorite ingredients at home. Sometimes, just looking in your pantry or fridge and getting creative with what you have can lead to a new 'weird' creation.

Yes, weird sandwiches can be healthy, depending on the ingredients you choose. Even unusual combinations can be nutrient-rich if you include vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. It's all about balance and making sure you include a variety of nutrients.

If you try a weird sandwich and don't like it, that's okay! Not every combination will be a winner for you. Just make a note of what you didn't enjoy and try a different combination next time. Cooking is all about exploration and finding what tastes good to you.

Peanut Butter and Banana

Third to grace my list of 9 weird sandwiches is the humble peanut butter and banana sandwich. A personal favorite of mine, I don’t believe it’s weird – tasty, but not weird! Give it a try: just take two pieces of brown bread, add the peanut butter (I like it nice and thick and of course, it has to be crunchy) and chopped banana. If you find it a little dry, adding a drizzle of runny honey will help

4

Chocolate Spread with Cheese

Apparently a mild cheese, such as cheddar, paired with Nutella hazelnut spread are a match made in heaven. In the words of my friend, “don’t knock it until you’ve tried it!”

5

Pineapple and Mayonnaise

I really dislike mayonnaise, so I’m biased on this sandwich. Why did I include it in my list of 8 weird sandwiches? Because fruit and mayonnaise should never be served together, least of all encapsulated in bread! When I discovered this sandwich I did want to heave a little bit, but if you try this please do let me know how you get on.

UPD:

Pineapple and mayonnaise is a sandwich that has been around for many years, but it has gained more notoriety in recent years as people have become more adventurous in their sandwich choices. This sandwich is usually made by combining slices of pineapple with mayonnaise, and then placing the concoction between two slices of bread. The result is a sandwich that is both sweet and savory, and can be served as a snack or a light meal.

Although this sandwich may sound strange, it is actually quite popular in some parts of the world. In Hawaii, it is known as the 'pineapple-mayo' sandwich and is traditionally served as a snack or a light meal. In the Philippines, it is known as the 'pineapple-mayo' sandwich and is often served as a side dish to fried dishes such as fish or pork.

The combination of pineapple and mayonnaise may sound strange, but it can actually be quite delicious. The sweetness of the pineapple is balanced by the tanginess of the mayonnaise, creating a unique flavor that is surprisingly pleasing. The texture of the sandwich is also quite interesting, as the mayonnaise helps to keep the bread from becoming too dry.

Peanut Butter and Pickle

Pickle is one of my favorite things to accompany a good ham or chicken sandwich, but paired with peanut butter? That’s just gross! The vinegary pickle would be a total contrast to the sweet peanut butter, so this isn’t something I’m going to try out!

UPD:

Peanut butter and pickle sandwiches have been around for a long time, but they’re certainly not a classic combination. The salty, vinegary pickle contrasts with the sweet, creamy peanut butter in a way that’s off-putting to some people.

Pickles are a popular condiment for sandwiches, and they’re often used to add flavor and texture to a sandwich. They’re especially popular in the United States, where they’re often served with hamburgers and hot dogs.

Peanut butter, on the other hand, is typically used as a spread for toast or sandwiches. It’s a popular food for breakfast, lunch, and snacks.

The combination of peanut butter and pickles is unusual and not something that most people would think of. The combination of salty and sweet flavors can be off-putting to some people, and it’s not a combination that’s widely popular.

That said, there are some people who do enjoy the combination of peanut butter and pickles. For those who are adventurous eaters, it can be a fun way to mix up their lunchtime routine.

Toasted Starburst

I’m not sure how I feel about this one. Starburst candies were one of my favorite childhood sweets, but the thought of having them in a toasted sandwich more than slightly repulses me. Personally I’ll keep my childhood nostalgia fresh by not attempting this sandwich, but please do comment and tell me if you tried it!

8

Marshmallow Fluff and Bacon

I think this is weird: marshmallow fluff and bacon in a sandwich? Separately I love the two products – lovely marshmallow and crispy bacon; however together the thought of that sandwich doesn’t seem too appealing. I had to include it on my list of 9 weird sandwiches because…it’s so well, weird!

9

Potato Chips and Ice Cream

It seemed fitting to finish off my list with the strangest sandwich that I have had the pleasure of coming across. Chocolate ice cream and salt and vinegar fried potato chips together cannot work in a sandwich – surely? I am going to try this at some point, just because I’m interested in the flavor combination of the two.

I hope you have enjoyed reading my list of 9 weird sandwiches. From bacon and fluff to honey with cheese, if you have found something that you love to eat please do tell me. Similarly if you have any other suggestions, please post them in a comment! I’m going to go and try out a few of these sandwiches over the next few weeks, wish me luck!

Where Thoughts and Opinions Converge

I tried the peanut butter and pickle sandwich a few months ago. I used creamy JIF and thin cut long sandwich pickles. I might try pickle chips next time. Pat your pickles dry. Toast your bread. I didn't and it became very soggy and I was already a bit put off by the whole combination. I only had dill pickles on hand and I think it might be better with Bread and Butter pickles.

das panzer same lol wanna sew them?

pickles and chocolate pudding. the contrast in tastes is the point. hello, chocolate covered pretzels?

Peanut butter and cucumbers is quite delicious and not as weird as it seems. Thin sliced ham, with cream cheese and cornichons rolled up together is somewhat of a revelation! Hmmmm, this has me thinking. Thanks for the great and interesting post!

this is why my 7th kid died so 3.5\5 stars

Try a toasted bacon and strawberry jam sandwich. And just plain strawberries on buttered bread, sprinkled with a little sugar. Two of my favourites!

mayo and fruit actually do make a lovely combination!! it is used in the famous Waldorf salad, which has apples, walnuts and celeri in a mayo/cream/castor sugar dressing. i was afarid to try it, but it tastes heavenly! :)

I wonder if some of these sandwiches were invented by "craving" pregnant women....lol I love fresh piece of bread with sweet butter and topped with honey...yum...you should try it someday. How about chopped pickles mixed with cream cheese and spread on a fresh bread...it is really good. Someone told me that they love mashed potatoes, topped with potato chips, sandwiched between to pieces of white bread,. Now that to me is a very strange sandwich.
